Some Neon Photos That Just Aren’t Bright Enough

While scouring Kansas City for photos to enter into that Peachpit Neon Sign contest, I wanted to head out in the dark, when the neon would be it’s brightest.  So I did just that, instead of tucking myself into bed and going to sleep at a decent hour, I chose to lead myself on a three hour photowalk in the dark.

A few places where no brainers, I headed straight to the Liberty Memorial to get some great shots of downtown.  The Liberty Memorial is an awesome vantage point and makes a great place for some amazing wedding photos but it also is one of the most popular vantage points in all of Kansas City for some great urban photos as well.

After shooting at the Liberty Memorial for an hour or so, I decided to venture over to the Power and Light District to check out some of the great neon in that area.  I walked all through the P&L and was about to snap my last photo when a security guard asked me if I had a press pass.  What the heck?  A press pass for taking pictures on what I thought was a public street?  I was dumbfounded, but he was a nice guy so I packed up my stuff and decided to call it a night.

These are some interesting shots that didn’t make the cut for the neon sign contest.

So now I’m curious. This is not the first time that I have read about someone politely being asked to put there camera away.

Where do you find out about these rules? And more importantly, how do we keep our noses clean in Las Vegas next week.

Nice job on the blog Kris!

Yeah, I must admit I was taken aback — though the security guard was one of the more friendly I have ever encountered. I am hoping in Vegas — they are used to photogs and we will be able to take pics of whatever.
